Mary only appears in few alternate Tom Sawyer novels and in the play. She is Tom and Sid's cousin who lives with them and Aunt Polly. She plays a minor part in the book, but plays a bigger part in the play.
Summary[]
Mary is cousin of Tom and Sid in The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and Aunt Polly's daughter. She is good natured, gentle, caring, and awfully mature, although we are never given her age.
Relationships[]
Tom Sawyer[]
Mary is a motherly figure to Tom. She helps her cousin study Bible verses, and scolds him when he's in the wrong. But even at his worst, she still finds nice things to say to him. She grieves when Tom and his friends are presumed dead, and rejoices when they return.
Aunt Polly[]
Known as Aunt Polly to Tom and Sid, Polly is Mary's mother.
Sidney "Sid" Sawyer[]
The younger cousin of Mary and Tom's half-brother, Sid and Mary seem to have more in common than with Tom, so it is possible that they have a closer relationship.
